Asanga Abeyagoonasekera – Dynamic Minds

Asanga Abeyagoonasekera serves as an Associated Expert at Dynamic Minds, advising on political and geopolitical risk management, with a particular focus on South Asia and the wider Indo-Pacific region.

He is an international security and geopolitics analyst and strategic advisor with extensive experience in government-affiliated policy institutions, national security analysis, and foresight-oriented risk assessment. His work addresses geopolitical dynamics, institutional risk exposure, and crisis-related governance challenges.

Alongside his engagement with Dynamic Minds, he is Executive Director of the South Asia Foresight Network (SAFN) under the Millennium Project in Washington, DC, where he also serves as a Senior Fellow. He is additionally a Senior Fellow at the German–Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPG).

In former roles, he served as the Founding Director General of the Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka (INSS), Sri Lanka’s national security think tank under the Ministry of Defence, and as Executive Director of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute (LKI), a foreign-policy think tank affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Asanga Abeyagoonasekera has held visiting professorships at Northern Kentucky University, the University of London, and the University of Colombo. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at policy and security think tanks across South and Southeast Asia, including the Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE), the National Bureau of International Information (NBII), and the International Relations Institute of Cambodia (IRIC).

He has authored five books on geopolitics and international security, with a particular focus on South Asia, the Indo-Pacific, and regional and global order. He is an alumnus of the NESA Center at the National Defense University in Washington, DC, a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS), and a long-standing member of the World Economic Forum Expert Network.
